Freshman defenseman Sam Labrecque (Granby, QUE) scored a goal and set up another as the Clarkson University Hockey team skated to a 2-2 tie at Bentley University on Saturday night. The Golden Knights, who own a six-game unbeaten streak (5-0-1), closed out the season-opening, non-league portion of the schedule with a 5-1-2 overall record. The Green and Gold open up ECAC Hockey play hosting Capital District rivals Rensselaer and Union at Cheel Arena next weekend.

Clarkson overcame a 1-0 first-period deficit to Bentley (1-5-1) with a pair of goals early in the middle frame to hold a 2-1 lead through 40 minutes.

Just 36 seconds into the stanza, and four seconds after a power play began, the Knights got on the scoreboard. Sophomore Ben Sexton (Kanata, ONT) won a faceoff back to Labrecque at the right point where the rookie rearguard fired in a low slapshot for his second collegiate goal.

At 4:04, seconds after a Clarkson power play had ended, senior Nick Tremblay (Candiac, QUE) picked up a rebound off a shot by senior Louke Oakley (Whitby, ONT) and knocked in his fifth goal of the season to put the Knights into the lead.  Labrecque also assisted.

Midway through the third period, the Falcons caught a break to tie the game when a wide shot by Brett Hartung deflected off a Clarkson player and redirected past senior goaltender Paul Karpowich (Thunder Bay, ONT) to make it a 2-2 game.

Clarkson outshot Bentley 34-31, including a 5-2 margin in the five-minute overtime session. Karpowich posted 29 saves.

The Knights continued their string of scoring a power-play goal in every game this season, going 1-of-6 with the man advantage against the Falcons. Bentley was 1-of-4 on the power play.
