Scanlon Chosen as Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-American

Senior Chrissy Scanlon (Queensbury, NY) of the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team was chosen as a Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-America District 3 First-Team member on Thursday, becoming the first Golden Knights' hoopster to earn the honor since 2007.

Through 17 games in 2011-12, Scanlon is averaging 8.7 points and 5.8 rebounds per game, having started 14 times. The 6-0 senior forward also sports a 3.89 grade-point average in biology at Clarkson. Named Liberty League All-Star Honorable Mention as junior, Scanlon is a three-time Liberty League All-Academic team member and has been selected for Dean's List and President's List every semester since her freshman year. She is also a member of Alpha Kappa Psi business society and Tri Beta (National Biological Honor Society). In her playing career she has recorded more than 500 career points and 300 rebounds.

Clarkson had three athletes gain Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-America honors in the fall, with Sara Artus and Erika Chin gaining notice from the volleyball team and Alix Pettiti picking up the honor for the women's soccer team. The last women's basketball player to achieve CoSIDA Academic All-America honors was Mickala Henson, who earned the selection three straight years from 2005-07.
