Potsdam, NY – Holding off the Rensselaer attack for most of the game, the Clarkson Men's Soccer Team eventually fell in a back-and-forth defensive battle 2-0 on Saturday afternoon at Hantz Turf Field.

The Golden Knights (2-8-0, 0-3 Liberty League) will travel to take on the Skidmore Thoroughbreds next Friday at 7:00 pm, while RPI (6-4-0, 2-1 Liberty League) will host conference foe Union College next Wednesday.

Scoring chances were fairly even in the first half, and Clarkson had their best shot midway through the half when Tucker Wilcox (Broadalbin, VT) beat two defenders into the box and took a shot that was saved by RPI goaltender Rob DeWald. Eric Herberger (East Aurora, NY) also had a shot on net late in the period, but it was saved by DeWald.

RPI was able to find the scoreboard in the 41st minute when Tim Terrezza volleyed a ball from 20 yards out into the top left corner of the net over Clarkson goalkeeper Alex White (Unadilla, NY). The goal was White's only blemish on the half, as he stopped four shots and controlled the backline.

White recorded another save early in the second half on a diving header attempt from RPI and finished with five saves on the afternoon. After shooting ten times in the first half, the Engineers were held to only two shots in the second half. Unfortunately for the Golden Knights, however, one of those shots found the back of the net. In the 72nd minute Matt Koziol found Joey Eilert in the box and Eilert kicked a ground ball to the right of White to make the score 2-0.

"We saw the fight again today that we saw yesterday," said head coach Nick Hillary. "We have nothing to hang our heads about. We battled a very good RPI team. These guys went to the playoffs last year and we definitely stepped to the occasion and played them very, very well."
