Chin Named Second-Team Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-American

Though the season ended for the Clarkson University Volleyball team nearly three weeks ago in the NCAA National Championship Quarterfinals, the national recognition awards for student-athletes continue to roll in as senior Erika Chin (Katy, TX) was chosen as a Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-American, gaining recognition with 17 other athletes across Division III.

Chin, who was chosen to the National Second-Team, becomes only the second female athlete at Clarkson to earn accolades for her academics and athletics, as she was also picked as an AVCA All-American Honorable Mention. The only other female student-athlete to earn both honors was former teammate Sara Artus during the 2011 season.

Chin is a double-major, earning a 3.84 grade-point average in both Chemical Engineering as well as Engineering & Management. She has earned Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District (District 3) honors for three straight years and is a two-time Liberty League All-Star. Athletically, Chin will go down as one of the most decorated athletes in the 39-year history of the Golden Knights' volleyball program. In addition to her numerous athletic and academic awards, Chin ranks second all-time in digs (2356) and aces (259) at Clarkson. She also holds three of the top eight single-season figures for digs, including a career-high 727 in 2013. That dig total led the Liberty League this year, and her 69 aces, which averaged to 0.49 per set, also were second in the conference behind teammate Victoria Kirkemo.

In her four seasons with the Knights, Chin's teams went to the NCAA Tournament four times and hosted the NCAA New York Regional the last three years, advancing as Regional Champions to the Elite 8 the past two years. Clarkson has gone 124-33 (.790 winning percentage) over that span.
