Clarkson Women to Skate in 2013 Outdoor Game

The Clarkson University Women’s Hockey team will play in its first ever outdoor game when the Golden Knights face off against RIT at Frontier Field in Rochester, NY on Saturday, December 14, 2013.

The Clarkson vs. RIT women’s game will be a major part of a 10-day festival that will take place from December 13 to December 22, 2013, serving as a celebration of hockey spent outdoors in downtown Rochester. Games times will be announced at a later date.

“We are really looking forward to playing in this event,” stated Clarkson co-head coach Shannon Desrosiers. “It is going to be a great experience for our players and something we are fortunate to be a part of.”

The festival begins with a regular season American Hockey League game at Frontier Field between the Rochester Americans and an opponent that will be announced at a later date on December 13. As part of the event at Frontier Field, which is home to Triple-A baseball’s Rochester Red Wings of the International League, the downtown ballpark will also host several Section V High School hockey games, an Alumni Game featuring former players from the Amerks and Buffalo Sabres, and community events. Blocks of ice time will be made available to the public for corporate events, private parties and youth/adult hockey practices and games.

“Monroe County is delighted to host this week filled with winter fun and great hockey at a truly unique location, Frontier Field," said County Executive Maggie Brooks. "I applaud the Rochester Americans and Rochester Red Wings for coordinating what will be a memorable week not just for hockey fans.”

The outdoor rink will be constructed at Frontier Field by Rink Specialists, a global ice skating rink sales, installation and repair company that provides ongoing operational efficiency and consulting services.

Clarkson Women’s Hockey celebrated its 10th season this past winter by skating to the program’s best campaign ever. The Golden Knights, guided by co-head coaches Matt and Shannon Desrosiers and assistant Matt Kelly, posted a 28-10 overall record, finished tied for second in the ECAC Hockey standings, one point out of first, with an 18-4 league mark. Clarkson participated in its second NCAA Tournament on March 16 when it played at Boston University in the national quarterfinal round. The Green and Gold, ranked 8th in the final USCHO.com national poll, are expected to return everyone from this past season’s team for the 2013-14 campaign with the exception of graduating seniors Hailey Wood and Danielle Skirrow.
