Gagnon Receives CoSIDA Academic Honors

Establishing a new standard for the Clarkson University Women’s Hockey team, junior Vanessa Gagnon became the first Golden Knight in the 10-year history of the program to earn CoSIDA Academic honors when she was selected to the first-team of the 2013 CoSIDA/Capital One Women's At-Large Academic All-Region team this May. The forward from St. Constant, Quebec will now be eligible for Academic All-American honors, which will be announced in June. Gagnon, a business major, has a 3.94 grade-point average.

Gagnon was the lone representative for ECAC Hockey on the District I First team.

Gagnon was a productive forward on one of Clarkson’s top lines as she played a key role in leading the Green and Gold to the program’s best season ever this past winter. She tallied 21 points on 10 goals and 11 assists through 38 games, and scored a goal in four of the last five games as the Knights advanced to the NCAA Tournament.

Gagnon became the only visiting player in 2012-13 to score a game-winning goal at Bright Hockey Center in Cambridge, MA as Clarkson defeated Harvard 3-1 on February 23 to secure the second-seed in the ECAC Hockey playoffs. She scored twice in the conference quarterfinal-series sweep against Rensselaer on March 1-2 at Cheel Arena and tallied two points (1-1) in the ECAC semifinals vs the Crimson on March 9. Gagnon produced three game-winning goals, two power-play tallies and won 55% (364-293) of her faceoffs during the season.

Gagnon was Clarkson Women’s Hockey Student-Athlete of the Year and selected as the Knights Unsung Hero Award Winner. She has been actively involved in the Knights’ community events through her first three years in Potsdam and has been named to the ECAC Hockey All-Academic teams.

Clarkson skated to a school-record 28-10 overall record and a second-place 18-4 ECAC Hockey mark in 2012-13.
