Clarkson Extends ECAC Hockey Unbeaten Streak over SLU with 2-1 Win

With another strong defensive effort backstopped in goal by sophomore Steve Perry (Ligonier, PA) the Clarkson University Hockey team picked up another win at St. Lawrence University's Appleton Arena with a 2-1 victory Saturday night to extend its ECAC Hockey unbeaten streak over the Saints to nine games (8-0-1).

Perry posted 21 saves and sophomores James de Haas (Mississauga, ONT) and Jordan Boucher (St. Therese, QUE) scored timely goals as the Golden Knights close out the 2014 portion of the league campaign on an up-beat note after the one-goal win over their archrival. Clarkson has played in 11 games this season that have been decided by one goal-or-less, going 3-4-4.

Clarkson, which extended its league unbeaten streak to four games (3-0-1) stands in third place in ECAC Hockey with a 4-1-2 conference mark. The Green and Gold bring a 6-7-4 overall record into next Sunday's game at Michigan State.

The Knights outshot the Saints on their home ice 31-22 as they improved their record at Appleton Arena to 4-0-1 since the 2010-11 campaign. Clarkson was strong on the penalty kill, shutting down St. Lawrence on all five of its power-play chances. The Knights went 0-2 with the man advantage.

Despite having to kill off three straight St. Lawrence power plays in the opening 10 minutes of the contest, including a 30-second two-man advantage for the Saints, Clarkson outshot the home team 10-5 in a scoreless first period.

Both teams picked up the pace in the middle frame with the Knights scoring the final two goals in the stanza to take a 2-1 lead through 40 minutes.

St. Lawrence struck first at 4:01 when Tommy Thompson connected on quick shot from the bottom of the right circle. Clarkson came back with its first goal less than two minutes later. At 5:35 de Haas tallied his third goal of the season on a hard shot from the point after a faceoff win by junior Todd Christian (Norwalk, CT). Sophomore Troy Josephs (Whitby, ONT) also assisted.

The Knights went on top with a goal by Boucher at 13:42, scoring from near the goal line when he lifted in a shot up and over St. Lawrence goaltender Kyle Hayton for his fifth tally of the year.
