Golden Knights Reap ECAC Hockey All-Star Honors

Several of the players responsible for Clarkson University Women's Hockey's best season ever were recognized by ECAC Hockey for their efforts in leading the Golden Knights' to the conference regular season title.

Clarkson gained five of the conference's major awards and placed five standouts on the league's first two all-league teams, which were announced Friday night at the ECAC Hockey Awards Banquet, held at Clarkson University's Camp Atrium.

Senior forward Jamie Lee Rattray headlined the awards, earning ECAC Hockey Player of the Year accolades. A native of Kanata, ONT, Rattray led the league in scoring with 42 points, tied for conference goal-scoring lead (19) and finished second in assists (23) in ECAC Hockey action. One of the top players in the country, Rattray was selected as a Top Three Finalists for the Patty Kazmaier Award on Thursday. She was named ECAC Hockey Player of the Month three times (November, December, January).

Sophomore standout Erin Ambrose was the co-recipient of the league's Best Defensive-Defenseman. Also a Top 10 Finalists for the Kazmaier Award, the Keswick, ONT native led ECAC hockey in scoring from the blueline, averaging 1.45 points per game and was the conference's best playmaker with 26 league assists. Ambrose boasts a team-high +41 plus/minus rating.

Vanessa Gagnon, a senior forward, was the winner of two awards, recognized as the league's Best-Defensive Forward and as the Mandi Schwartz Student-Athlete of the Year. The St. Constant, QUE native is one of the league's best at the faceoff circle, winning 64% of her draws. She posts a +37 plus/minus rating. Gagnon tallied 19 points (10-9) in conference action and netted three game-winners over league teams. An excellent student, Gagnon completed her undergrad after her junior year with a 3.95 GPA in Innovation and Entrepreneurship and currently is the top student in Clarkson's MBA program with a 4.0

Named ECAC Hockey Coaches of the Year, Matt and Shannon Desrosiers, along with assistant Matt Kelly, have guided Clarkson to a 16-2-4 first place league mark and a 27-4-3 overall record entering the championship tournament weekend. During their six-year careers guiding the Green and Gold, the coaches have amassed an 83-32-17 record in league play and brought the Knights into the conference playoffs sixth consecutive times.

Rattray and Ambrose were both selected ECAC Hockey First-Team All-Stars.

Clarkson's captain, senior Carly Mercer (Exeter, ONT) and classmate Brittany Styner were named second-team all-star forwards. Senior goaltender Erica Howe (Ottawa, ONT) also gained second-team honors.

Mercer power the Knights' league-leading power play with an ECAC high 13 points (3-10) on the man-advantage. She posted 25 points (7-18) in 22 conference games. Styner was a top contributor to Clarkson's league-leading offense with10 goals and 21 assists in ECAC Hockey action. Howe posted the most wins in league play (16) and top the conference in goals against average (1.12). Nine of her NCAA-high 13 shutouts cam against ECAC Hockey foes. She was voted ECAC Hockey Goaltender of Year.
