Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-American First-Team member in the sport of basketball this past winter, junior John Coleman (Potsdam, NY) of the Clarkson University Baseball team added another honor on Wednesday when it was announced that he received Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-American Third-Team honors, becoming only the second athlete ever at Clarkson to earn the honor in two different sports.

This is the 29th time that an athlete from Clarkson University has gained CoSIDA Academic All-American honors and Coleman is one of only 13 male athletes (18 total) to receive the honor. He joins Stephanie Sealer (1994-95) as the only other athlete from Clarkson to earn the honor in two different sports, as Sealer won the national honor in both women's basketball and women's tennis. Coleman's two prior national selections in basketball and this year's baseball honor allows him to join only Tim Barcomb (2000, 2001, 2002 in baseball) as Clarkson student-athletes with three national honors on their respective resumes.

Coleman, who has produced a 3.98 grade-point average in Mathematics through five semesters, was a unanimous Liberty League First-Team All-Star selection at shortstop. One of the top defensive shortstops in the country, Coleman had a .973 fielding percentage and committed only four errors in 32 games this year. He also batted .292, leading the team with 35 hits and stealing 10 bases in 10 attempts. Coleman ranked in the top 25 in the country as one of the hardest players to strike out, whiffing in only four of his 120 at bats.

On the basketball court, Coleman was a unanimous Liberty League First-Team All-Star, averaging 19.7 points per game. He led the conference with a 58.2% field goal percentage and 2.7 steals per game. His 227 total field goals made ranked fourth in the country.
