4th-Ranked Clarkson Completes Road Sweep of #9 Boston University

A pair of goals by both senior assistant captain Olivia Howe and junior Genevieve Bannon highlighted the Clarkson University Women's Hockey team's 4-1 victory over Boston University on Saturday, capping off a weekend sweep of the perennial national power on its home ice in Boston.

With the victory, the 4th/5th-ranked Golden Knights have jumped out to the best start in the program's 13-year history at 7-0-0. The Knights rallied for a 4-2 victory over the 9th-ranked Terriers on Friday night at Walter Brown Arena. Clarkson will look to continue its perfect season when it hosts the University of New Hampshire in a pair of non-league games at Cheel Arena next weekend.

"I thought we played a more complete game tonight from start to finish," said Head Coach Matt Desrosiers. "We kept things simple and took advantage of some opportunities we created. We were much more sound defensively, which helped us slow their skilled forwards down and reduce the amount of quality scoring chances we gave up. Overall it was a great weekend for us that we can take a lot from moving forward."

The Green and Gold never trailed in Saturday's game against Boston University, taking a 1-0 lead on Howe's tally at 15:54 of the first period. Howe scored again, her fourth of the season, at 9:43 of the middle frame.

Boston University got on the scoreboard with 1:26 remaining in the period to cut the Knights' lead to 2-1 after 40 minutes.

That was all the scoring for the home team, however, as the Knights closed out the road weekend with a pair of goals from Bannon over the final 20 minutes. Entering the game as Clarkson's top playmaker, Bannon scored her first of the season at 6:39 of the third and added her second goal of the day, into an empty net with 1:39 remaining.

Clarkson's leading scorer, junior Cayley Mercer recorded a pair of assists to give her a team-high 11points (4-7) on the season.

The Knights outshot the Terriers 41-23, including a 14-7 margin in the first period. Sophomore Shea Tiley, playing her 44th career game in the Clarkson crease, posted 22 saves to record her 30th career victory.

Clarkson was 0-of-5 on the power play and killed off both of Boston University's man-advantage opportunities.
