Clarkson Drops 2-0 Decision to Bard

For the second straight game, the Clarkson University Women's Soccer team was unable to find the back of the net as the Golden Knights fell to visiting Bard 2-0 on Friday afternoon at Hantz Turf Field.

Clarkson falls to 6-3-0 overall and 0-2-0 in the Liberty League while Bard improves its record to 5-3-1 overall and 1-1-0 in conference games.

Both teams struggled to find scoring opportunities in the first half, with just six shots being taken in the first half, all by Bard. The most important shot came in the 40th minute. Gina Lewis received a pass from Carla Sanchez and lined up a shot from nearly 30 yards out. Lewis' driven effort beat a diving Anna Demasi and opened the scoring for the Raptors.

Clarkson was able to manufacture four shots in the second half, but could not score while Bard netted on one of only two efforts in the period. That goal came in the 68th minute when Lewis played a through ball to Avalon Qian who was all alone heading towards the Clarkson goal. Qian pushed the ball past an onrushing Damasi and the ball came back off the right post to Qian who tapped into an empty net. It is only the second time this season that the Green and Gold have allowed multiple goals in a game.

Bard held a 6-4 advantage in shots while Clarkson had a 4-3 edge in corner kicks. Demasi made four saves in goal for Clarkson with her Bard counterpart, Kelsey O' Brien making two stops.

Clarkson will try again for its first conference win tomorrow at 2:00 pm when it hosts Vassar.
