CU Women's Lacrosse Preview - vs. St. Lawrence (4/1/)

Thanks to some frost-heave issues in Canton, the Clarkson University Women's Lacrosse team's home-opener has been pushed up 10 days as the Golden Knights will host St. Lawrence on Wednesday at Hantz Turf Field.

The Golden Knights enter the game with a record of 6-2 overall and 1-1 in the Liberty League, while the Saints are just 2-6 overall and 0-2 in conference games, though St. Lawrence has lost three games to ranked teams earlier this season. Clarkson has never beaten St. Lawrence in 39 games, though the Knights fell just 10-8 in last year's game.

Junior Christine Wright leads the Liberty League in scoring with 39 points overall, ranking fifth with 22 goals and fourth with 17 assists. Wright, who scored her 100th career goal on Saturday against Rochester, has also produced 16 groundballs and 14 draw controls. Sophomore Paige Fayette, ninth in the conference in scoring with 28 points, scored six points last week and has 20 goals and eight assists this year. She also has 17 groundballs and caused nine turnovers. Freshman Taylor Collins is ninth in the league in draws with 20 and also has 13 goals. Junior Emma Jefferey leads the team with 11 caused turnovers and also has 14 groundballs.

While Clarkson has a solid offense this season, the team's defense has been clutch, especially late in games that have inspired several late comebacks. The Knights rank second in the league in scoring defense (8.34 gpg) and have limited their miscues. Junior Dani Tani leads the conference in goals against average with 8.28 gpg and has posted a 42.2% save percentage.

Four players have scored 10 points or more this year for the Saints, led by Kiera Taussig, who has 13 goals and an assist to go along with 16 groundballs, 14 draws and 10 caused turnovers. Kayla Schmalz has scored 11 goals and has added in 15 groundballs, eight draws and seven caused turnovers. Chloe Knapp and Abigail Owens have each contributed 10 points. Adden Cunningham is sixth in the league in groundballs with 24, but the goaltender has also provided steady defense in the crease with a 46.6% save percentage.
