Coleman Named Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District Winner

Enjoying his best season on the diamond in his four years with the Clarkson University Baseball team, it came as no surprise when John Coleman earned Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District 3 honors on Thursday for the third time in his baseball career and the sixth time overall.

Coleman, who has a 3.97 grade-point average in mathematics, is a four-time Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-American, receiving the honor three times for basketball and once, so far, for baseball. He was also picked as the Capital One/CoSIDA Scholar Athlete of the Year for all Division III teams in basketball this past winter.

With a .422 batting average, .578 slugging percentage and .519 on-base percentage, Coleman ranks in the top five in each rate statistic in the Liberty League, the only player to rank so highly across the board. He leads the team in hits (46), runs (34), and total bases (63) along with the aforementioned rate statistics, and is second in walks (19), extra-base hits (12). He also is one of the finest fielding shortstops in the country, having committed only five errors in 160 chances for a .969 fielding percentage.

With his second award of the season, Coleman has helped lift Clarkson to eight Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District selections this year, the fourth straight year that the school has garnered so many honors. The At-Large teams will be announced next week.
