Wright Named At-Large Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-American

Junior Christine Wright of the Clarkson University Women's Lacrosse team earned another high academic honor on Tuesday when she was chosen to the Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-America At-Large team.

Capital One/CoSIDA Release

Wright, who owned a 4.00 grade-point average in Electrical Engineering, earned At-Large Second-Team honors, one of 45 student-athletes chosen to any of the three teams. She was one of only five women's lacrosse players to gain the honor, with three on the second team being the highest chosen, and was also one of only eight members with a perfect 4.00 GPA, with two on the first team, five on the second team, and one on the third team. Wright has been chosen as an All-District winner in each of the last two years. The At-Large teams are made up of student-athletes from sports that don't have their own specific academic honors from Capital One/CoSIDA. Wright was one of three student-athletes from the Liberty League to gain the CoSIDA notice, with one coming from a swimming team and another from a crew squad.

On the field, Wright, a junior midfielder, was picked as an IWLCA Empire Region Second-Team All-Star and a Liberty League First-Team All-Star. She led her conference in scoring at 4.69 points per game with 75 points in 16 games, including 39 goals and 36 assists. She ranked in the top 10 in the conference in both goals per game (2.44, sixth) and assists per game (2.25, third) and was the only player in the league to record at least 30 goals and assists in the conference. Her 75 points tied the single-season mark at Clarkson, first achieved just two years ago by Alyssa Cristaldi. Wright also became Clarkson's first-ever junior to eclipse the 200-point mark for her career. Wright finished third on the team in both groundballs (24) and draw controls (25). Her 36 assists in 2015 added 50 percent to the previous school mark (24).

Wright was just the fourth Clarkson University female at the Division III level, and fifth female overall, to earn an At-Large honor. The last to gain such notice was Kristen Larsen of the swimming team in 2009. The past academic year of 2014-15 has been the best stretch ever for Clarkson University in regards to CoSIDA honors, with 10 All-District selections and three All-American honors.
