Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Sept. 26, 2015

Golden Knights Held By Skidmore

A second half goal was the deciding factor as the Clarkson Women's Soccer team fell to visiting Skidmore 1-0 on Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Knights are now 6-2-0 overall this season with a 0-1-0 Liberty League record while Skidmore improves to 4-3-0 overall and 2-0-0 in conference games.

Neither team was able to score in the first half, although each team had chances. Both teams took four shots in the first half, but Clarkson goalkeeper Anna Demasi made three saves and Skidmore goalkeeper Deirdre Walsh had two stops to keep the game scoreless.

Skidmore finally broke through eight minutes into the second half. Shelby Hanlon played a through ball to leading scorer Emily Saliterman who was able to score on a breakaway for her fourth goal of the year.

Twenty minute later it looked like Skidmore might ice the game when Saliterman again found herself on a breakaway, but Demasi made a great kick save to deny her, and then recovered back into the net to stop a second shot from Saliterman.

Clarkson could not take advantage of those stops though, as the Green and Gold were unable to find the back of the net for just the first time all season.

Skidmore finished the game with a 10-8 advantage in shots with both teams taking five corner kicks. Demasi finished with six saves and Walsh made three saves for a shutout.

Clarkson will return to action when the Golden Knights host Bard for a 4:00 pm game next Friday, followed by a 2:00pm game against Vassar on Saturday.
