Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Sept. 4, 2015

Gillespie's Two Goals Lead Golden Knights to 4-1 Victory

In her second collegiate game, Summer Gillespie scored two goals, including the game-winner, as the Clarkson University Women's Soccer team defeated Marywood 4-1 on Saturday afternoon at Hantz Turf Field.

Clarkson improves its record to a perfect 2-0-0 while Marywood is now 0-1-1.

Clarkson started the scoring very early. The Golden Knights were up 1-0 after just one minute and five seconds of play. Gillespie found Lauren Flynn in the box and Flynn hit her shot into the back of the net for her second goal of the season.

Gillespie got her first goal in the 53rd minute. Madison Kather crossed the ball in from the right wing and Gillespie flew in to head it past the Marywood goalkeeper.

Eight minutes later, Marywood got on the board. Amanda Alikmaa let fly with a long shot that just got by a jumping Clarkson goalkeeper, Anna Demasi.

Clarkson salted the game away with two goals within four minutes of each other. First, Kather crossed the ball in again from the right wing, and it was helped across by Flynn. The ball got to the back post of the goal, where Tori Sailor was waiting to tap it in for her first goal of the year.

Gillespie provided the final goal in the 84th minute. She lined up a free kick from 25 yards out and hit a screamer to score her second goal of the game.

Clarkson held a staggering 22-5 advantage in shots and took four corners to Marywood's 2. Demasi made two saves in net for the Green and Gold with Aly Moyer stopping eight shots for Marywood.

Clarkson will welcome Plattsburgh State to Hantz Turf Field for a 2:00 pm game on Sunday while Marywood will travel to St. Lawrence for the final games of the North Country Classic.
