CU Women's Hoops Earns Lopsided Win Over SUNY Canton

Canton, NY – Up by nine points in just over two minutes, the rout was on as the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team extended its winning streak to seven games with a 73-43 victory over SUNY Canton on Friday evening.

The Golden Knights improved to 12-4 overall while the Kangaroos dropped to 4-11. Clarkson will play one more game out of conference this season, finishing up that portion of the schedule when the team hosts Hamilton College next Tuesday.

Clarkson raced out to a 9-0 lead at the 7:45 mark of the first quarter and was up 18-2 just three minutes later, never looking back in the lopsided win. Clarkson was up 25-8 after 10 minutes and then held SUNY Canton to just four points in the second quarter, tying for the fewest amount of points the team has allowed in any quarter this year. Clarkson led by 20 at the half despite getting minimal time out of its starters. The Knights caused 26 turnovers in the first half and produced 18 steals.

In the second half, the Knights again used their starters moderately, emptying the bench to finish off the win, but the Clarkson reserves were equally up to the task, outscoring the Kangaroos 40-31 in the final 20 minutes.

Clarkson, which normally uses its starters for 160 out of a possible 200 minutes this season, had its starting five on the court for just 72 combined minutes. Despite that, the Knights still had three players finish in double figures as Ashley Loggins produced 13 points, three rebounds and four steals in only 12 minutes, while reserves Raeanna Dunn and Kathleen Coloney scored career-highs. Dunn finished with 12 points on 6-for-10 shooting to go along with six rebounds, while Coloney shot 5-for-9 to produce 10 points, adding in five boards and four steals. The Knights recorded a season-high 24 steals in the contest, forcing SUNY Canton into 35 turnovers.
