CU Women's Hoops Picks Up 10th Straight Win

Annandale-on-Hudson, NY - Sixteen first-half turnovers and a 2-for-21 performance from the field by the hosts provided the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team with some leeway of its own on offense as the Golden Knights slopped their way through to a 52-43 victory over Bard College on Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Knights improved to 15-4 overall and 8-2 in the Liberty League with their eighth straight conference win and 10th straight overall, tying for the third-longest winning streak in program history. Bard fell to 5-15 and 0-11. Clarkson returns home next weekend to take on Rensselaer and Union.

Clarkson struggled in the first half with 12 turnovers and shooting just 11-for-32 from the floor with only a pair of free throw attempts, but the Raptors still trailed by 10 at the break due to 16 turnovers of their own and only two baskets in the first 20 minutes. The only thing that kept Bard within a reasonable margin was an 11-for-17 showing at the free throw line.

In the third quarter, Bard finally found some success on offense and ended the period with a 13-3 run as the Knights went cold, going 1-for-7 with two turnovers in the final six minutes of the period. Though the Raptors were within six points by the end of three quarters, Clarkson quickly pushed the lead back to double digits with baskets on three straight possessions from Colleen Daley and Ashley Loggins. Fortunately for the Knights that mini-run was enough of a push to hold off any hopes of a comeback by the Raptors.

Sophomore Devin Sorell finished with 11 points and five steals and senior Ashley Loggins added 10 points and eight rebounds. Alyssia Marsal also scored nine points while Stephanie Grobe contributed seven points and six assists. For Bard, Tytravia Riley had 13 points and 16 boards and Bianka Bell produced a game-high 14 points. Alexis Akingbade also contributed eight points and 16 rebounds.
