CU Women's Soccer Preview - vs RPI/Union (10/14-10/15)

Clarkson will try to defeat Union for the first time in program history.
Only five games remain in the regular season for the Clarkson University Women's Soccer team. The Golden Knights will play two of their final three home games this weekend when Rensselaer and Union travel to Potsdam.

Clarkson has a 4-8-0 record this season overall and is 0-4-0 in the Liberty League. Last weekend the Green and Gold hosted the number one ranked William Smith Herons. Although Clarkson fell 4-0, the Golden Knights hung with the undefeated Herons for the first half, as William Smith mustered only an own goal  in the first 45 minutes, while Madison Kather's shot to tie the game was saved.

As the season comes to a close, Lauren Flynn has a chance to move even further up the Clarkson career leaderboards. The senior captain has 43 points and 19 goals in her career, putting her in sixth and tied for second on the Clarkson all-time lists. Her eight goals on the season are already the sixth highest single season total in program history while her 17 points are ninth. Summer Gillespie also finds herself on the career leaderboards as her 21 career points ties her for 20th all-time in Clarkson's history. She is also one assist away from moving into eighth all-time.

RPI comes into the weekend just outside of the last Liberty League playoff spot with a 9-3-0 overall record and a 1-2-0 conference mark. The Engineers won their conference opener 1-0 over RIT, but fell to William Smith 1-0 and Vassar 2-1 since. RPI has also lost to second-ranked Williams 1-0 earlier in the season. Emily Kaplan is tied for fourth in the conference with six goals on the season, five of which are game-winning scores. Clarkson has an all-time record of 10-19-4 against RPI. In 2015, Clarkson earned a 1-1 double overtime tie with the Engineers with Flynn scoring off an assist from Gillespie.

Union comes into the weekend with a 6-3-2 overall record and an undefeated 2-0-1 Liberty League mark. After starting the season 0-3-0, the Dutchwomen have won six of their last eight games, including the last four. They have outscored opponents 16-2 in that span. Katie Monahan leads the team with nine points on four goals and an assist. Kelsey Hartsoe has a goals against average of just 0.25 and has racked up six shutouts. Clarkson has not defeated Union in 23 games, however the Golden Knights have played Union to a draw in both 2014 and 2011.

Clarkson will kick off against RPI at 4:00 pm on Friday afternoon and against Union at 2:00 pm.
