CU Women's Lax Grabs 13-9 Decision Over Vassar

Potsdam, NY – A spurt of four goals in the final two minutes of the first half turned out to be the difference in the game for the Clarkson University Women's Lacrosse team as the Golden Knights came away with a 13-9 victory over Vassar College on Saturday at Hantz Turf Field.

The Golden Knights improved to 11-2 overall and 5-1 in the Liberty League with the win, while Vassar dropped to 5-6 overall and 1-4 in conference games.

Both teams took some time getting rolling on offense, as each team produced just a single goal in the first 15 minutes. However, things got going for the Knights late in the period. Up just 5-4 with about two minutes remaining, Ashley Flick scored from Christine Wright with 1:50 to go, and Wright followed with a goal of her own just 24 seconds later. Then in the final minute, Flick scored from Kate Dillon with 29 seconds to go and Dillon found Stephanie Lynch with just one tick remaining to give Clarkson a 9-4 advantage at the break.

Vassar didn't wilt, however, scoring the first three goals of the second half and turning the tide of momentum in its favor. Clarkson finally rediscovered its flow on offense in the second portion of the half as Christine Wright broke a 17:52 second scoreless stretch with a goal, and Taylor Collins made sure there wouldn't be a similar streak by tallying just 66 seconds later. Wright found Flick again only 333 seconds after Collins' goal and from that point the Knights were able to hold off the Brewers to win their second straight conference game.

Wright finished with six points on three goals and three assists, and also added in three draw controls and caused three turnovers. Flick tallied four goals, and Kate Dillon matched Wright's output with six points on two goals and four assists. Collins, Casey Shannon and Lynch each scored one goal and Emma Jeffery scored a goal and an assist with three draws. Samantha Gladd made five stops on 14 sheets.

For Vassar, Storm Sideleau scored three goals and added three groundballs and two caused turnovers. Isabelle Goldstein contributed two goals, three groundballs and two draws while Kim Mulvehill added a pair of goals. Kristin Caolo made three saves in the Vassar crease.
