Top 10 Clarkson Highlights - #6 Clarkson Women's Lacrosse Posts Program-Record 12 Victories

At the start of the non-traditional season in the fall, the Clarkson University Women's Lacrosse team had several question marks. The team had lost a two-time conference all-star to transfer and didn't have a goalkeeper on the roster that had seen even a second of action in a collegiate game. Fortunately for the Golden Knights the questions were answered emphatically as the spring season wore on with Clarkson enjoying its best season in program history.

After a season-opening loss to defending national champion Cortland State, the Green and Gold spun themselves a nine-game winning streak, a record-breaking run for Clarkson, en route to a program-best 12-4 season and 6-3 record in the Liberty League. Most impressively, the Knights didn't just win those nine games; they dominated with an average margin of victory of eight goals per game.

Stepping up in the scoring department were junior attackers Ashley Flick and Kate Dillon. In three games during the school's spring break, Flick found the twine 14 times and assisted on four more goals, while Dillon helped the team win its first two games in league play with six goals and five assists. And although she had never been a slouch on offense, entering the season with more than 200 career points, Christine Wright became an absolute menace for the opposition. The senior midfielder recorded at least two points in 15 of the team's 16 games and shattered nearly every record in Clarkson's all-time rolls. Wright led the league in scoring with 86 points and had 44 assists, finishing 11th in the nation in assists per game (2.75 apg). She achieved numerous accolades in her final season as she was selected Liberty League Co-Player of the Year, an IWLCA All-Region First-Team member, and a CoSIDA Academic All-American for the second straight year.

While the team's offense was key, the difference in 2016 for the Golden Knights was the uptick in defensive prowess. Clarkson had a stellar defensive corps in seniors Mallory Fisher, Hanna Gleason and Emma Jeffery that provided a steady hand and limited options for the opposition. When opposing offenses were able to take a shot at the Clarkson cage, first-year collegian Samantha Gladd proved troublesome, ranking second in the conference in both save percentage (.489) and goals against average (6.48 gpg).
