After two tough road losses broke up the perfect start to the season, the Clarkson University Women's Soccer team will return home to friendly confines to take on local rival Potsdam State in a 6:00 pm game on Tuesday night.
After a 4-0 start, Clarkson dropped two straight games to fall to 4-2-0 for the season. On Friday, Clarkson dropped a hard-fought 1-0 decision to Oswego State. Giulia Mahoney and Lauren Flynn both hit the crossbar for Clarkson, but a free kick goal helped the Lakers come away with the win. On Saturday, Nazareth was able to score three first half goals en route to a 4-0 win. It was just the first time all season that Clarkson has given up multiple goals in the same game.
Lauren Flynn was held scoreless for the first time this season in the two games. Flynn still leads the team with 13 points on six goals and one assist. With one more point, Flynn will move into sole possession of seventh on the career points list. A goal will put her into a tie for third on the all-time goals list and will also tie her previous career high of seven goals in a season. Overall, Clarkson has scored 21 goals this season which is the second best total among Liberty League teams.
Freshman goalkeeper Elyse Green made nine saves in the two games last weekend, including a career-high six against Nazareth. Those six saves are tied for the seventh-highest single game total among Liberty League goalkeepers.
Potsdam comes in with a 6-1-0 record and is on a five game winning streak. Over those five games, the Bears have outscored opponents 25-4. Brooke Falsion leads the team with 15 points on seven goals and one assist. Rylie Murray and Olivia Seamans also have double-digit points totals with Murray having scored three goals to go with four assists and Seamans has four goals and two assists. Clarkson has a 20-6-3 overall record against Potsdam and has won six straight against the Bears. Last year, the Golden Knights earned a 2-0 home win with Paige Spittler and Flynn scoring the goals for Clarkson.
