Golden Knights Sweep Three-Set Match from Williams to Move to 11-4

Potsdam, NY – With 10 total blocks on three solos and 14 block assists, the Clarkson University Volleyball team made Williams very uncomfortable near the net in its three-set victory over the Ephs, 25-21, 25-14, 25-14, on Saturday evening at Alumni Gymnasium.

The Golden Knights improved to 11-4 overall and the team has lost just once in its last nine outings. Williams fell to 4-6. Clarkson will now get 10 days off before facing Oswego State on October 4th.

The two teams were evenly matched in the first set as neither could get much of a foothold. Williams led at the midway point, 13-12, but a run of solid serving from Katrina Lane gave Clarkson six straight points for an 18-13 advantage. From that point, Clarkson cruised to a 25-21 win.

That momentum carried in the next two sets as Williams was continually on its heels and unable to put much together on offense. In fact, the Ephs were only one kill better than their error total in any of the sets and hit only .025 in the match. Conversely, Clarkson struck for 38 kills with only 11 errors and a .231 hitting percentage.

The most important aspect of the match was Clarkson's performance on defense at the net as it produced a dominant effort up front, totaling 10 blocks and getting key contributions from several players. Katrina Lane had six blocks assists and Rachel Reusch recorded five block assists while Rachael Aird had two solo efforts and two block assists. Aird also hit .417 in the match with 12 kills (12-2-24), and Reusch hit .467 (8-1-15). Jillian Saenz produced 29 assists and Kate Isaksen dug 16 balls. For Williams, Tori Jasuta scored eight kills but also had seven errors, many of which came at the hands of the Clarkson middles. Alex Newton scored a double-double with 18 assists and 10 digs, as she was one of four players to reach double figures in the latter category. Ally Ostrow and Jasuta each produced 13 digs, while libero Caitie Benell had a team-best 14 digs.
