Knights Denied in Overtime at Union, 2-1

Schenectady, NY – A quick reversal of the field saw the Clarkson University Women's Soccer team drop a 2-1 decision to Union College on Saturday afternoon.

After a shot from Summer Gillespie was stopped at the 98:04 mark by Union's Allison Sorkenn, the Dutchwomen countered and picked up the game-winning goal 34 seconds later when Katie Monahan headed a cross from Linsey Giles to end the contest in the first overtime.

The Golden Knights dropped to 7-5-3 on the season and 3-3-1 in the Liberty League, while the Dutchwomen kept their modest post-season hopes alive by moving to 7-5-2 and 2-4-1 in league. Clarkson is in a tie for fifth place with Rensselaer in the Liberty League standings, and Ithaca is just one point behind in seventh. The Knights have league games against St. Lawrence and Rensselaer next week, both on the road.

Both teams traded goals in the first half with Amanda Ashmen tallying in the 21st minute for Union, but Clarkson sophomore Alicia Bushey responded at the 35:52 mark with her first collegiate.

The game remained in a stalemate in the second half, but Union was able to pick up the game-winner in the first overtime despite deficits in shots (13 for Clarkson, 11 for Union) and corner kick opportunities (7 for Clarkson, 2 for Union). Elyse Green made five saves for Clarkson, while Allison Sorkenn made six stops for Union.
