CU Women's Basketball Preview - at Oswego State (11/15)

Three straight playoff appearances, including a conference title two years ago, has the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team in the midst of its best run in close to three decades. The Golden Knights will begin the path to possibly a fourth straight Liberty League playoff berth on Wednesday when they travel to take on Oswego State.

The Series: The Golden Knights hold a 13-7 lead in the all-time series against the Lakers, having won three straight and five of the last six meetings. Clarkson's margin of victory over the last three games is an impressive 16.7 points per game, including a 17-point win (63-46) last year.

Key Stats for Clarkson (16-11 in 2016-17): The Golden Knights lost a trio of seniors that contributed to the Knights' success, including two-time Liberty League Defensive Player of the Year Stephanie Grobe. Clarkson does have an impressive backcourt returning in seniors Madison Shea and Devin Sorell. Shea posted solid all-around numbers with 10.3 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 2.8 steals per game in 2016-17, and he has always put up great numbers against the Lakers, including a line of 6 rebounds, 8 assists and 5 steals in last year's match up. Devin Sorell was named a Liberty League First-Team All-Star as a junior, averaging 16.2 points per game thanks to 51 3-pointers. Sophomore Molly Stewart will look to build upon her freshman season, in which she averaged 8.2 points per game, with more efforts like her collegiate debut last year when she scored 16 points on 6-for-8 shooting against Oswego.

Key Stats for Oswego State (9-16 in 2016-17): The Lakers are in full rebuild mode with a new coach and the loss of three of their top five scorers from a year ago. Courtney Ameele averaged 11.5 points and 3.2 rebounds per game for the Lakers in 2016-17 and she has been Oswego's team-high scorer in the last two games against Clarkson, averaging 15.0 ppg in the previous two meetings, albeit with seven turnovers in last year's game. Rachael Windhausen is Oswego's second-leading returning scorer, averaging 6.0 points and 5.7 rebounds per contest last year.
