AVCA Announces Aird, Isaksen, Reusch and LaMarche for All-Region Honors

Nearly mirroring the awards given out by the league the previous day, the Clarkson University Volleyball program picked up four more awards from the AVCA when the regional committees announced their all-star selections on Thursday morning.

Senior Rachael Aird and sophomore Kate Isaksen were picked as AVCA All-New York Region, while sophomore Rachel Reusch was chosen as an AVCA All-New York Region Honorable Mention. The AVCA New York Region Coach of the Year was given to Clarkson's second-year head coach Carol LaMarche.

AVCA All-Region Announcement

Aird, who earned her third nod from the AVCA and second as an All-New York Region First-Team member, scored 3.04 kills per set with a .302 hitting percentage, both figures that ranked among the conference leaders in 2017. Her 0.78 blocks per set ranked second in the league, but her 27 solo efforts are tied with teammate Rachel Reusch for the most in the conference. Aird, the Liberty League Tournament's Most Valuable Player for the second straight year, also showed her merit during the conference playoffs with 29 kills and only three errors in 48 swings over the weekend.

Isaksen, who earned her first AVCA selection on Thursday, elevated her already impressive game from a year ago. The sophomore libero easily led the conference in digs with 6.71 per set, and that figure currently is the top mark in all of Division III as well. She recorded 30 or more digs in a match 11 times in 2017, including five times against regionally-ranked opponents. Isaksen also chipped in 35 service aces, the second most for the Golden Knights this year.

For the second straight year, Rachel Reusch gained AVCA All-New York Region Honorable Mention thanks to her continued excellence on the court. Reusch posted solid numbers across the board in 2017, recording 2.55 kills and 0.92 digs per set. She ranked second in the Liberty League in hitting percentage at .306 while her blocks per set (0.68) ranked sixth in the conference. She, too, is tied for the league lead in solo blocks with teammate Rachael Aird.

In just her third season at the helm, and second straight for the Golden Knights, LaMarche and first-year assistant Samantha Clarey guided the Golden Knights to a 21-7 record during the regular season. The Knights played 10 matches against teams that made the 2017 NCAA Tournament, with each of those opponents either achieving a national ranking or receiving votes in the AVCA poll. Clarkson ended the 2017 regular season with 11 straight victories and a sixth consecutive Liberty League title, despite a roster with just two seniors.
