Knights Fall in Regular-Season Finale to Skidmore 67-57

Saratoga Springs, NY – Though the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team forced Skidmore to commit 29 turnovers, it wasn't enough to drop the Liberty League regular-season title winners as the Golden Knights fell 67-57 Sunday afternoon.

The Golden Knights finished off the regular season with a record of 15-10 overall and 10-6 in the Liberty League, tied for third in the conference. Clarkson will end up as the fourth seed due to a tiebreaker and will return to play Skidmore again on Wednesday. The Thoroughbreds won the regular season Liberty League title at 13-3 and are now 17-8 overall.

Skidmore scored five of the first seven points in the game, but the first quarter belonged to Clarkson. The Knights quickly rallied from their three-point deficit and turned a modest two-point lead at the midway point into a double-digit advantage when Devin Sorell made a layup at the buzzer for a 21-9 lead. The Thoroughbreds chipped away at Clarkson's lead throughout the second quarter, but it wasn't until Kelly Donnelly made a 3-pointer at the end of the half that Skidmore pulled even at 28-28.

When Skidmore scored the opening basket of the third quarter, it marked the last tie that the Knights would be even or ahead of the Thoroughbreds. Madison Shea made a jumper for the Knights at the 6:19 mark to make the score 36-34, but Skidmore rattled off eight straight, including a Meghan Flanagan 3-pointer, to push its advantage to 10. That would be a theme for the next 10 minutes as Clarkson would pull within five, only to see the margin go back to 10. In the final two minutes of the game, Clarkson got within six on two occasions, but Skidmore made enough free throws down the stretch to push the margin to 10 for a final time.

Madison Shea finished with a team-high 13 points, shooting 6-for-13 from the field, and added seven steals. Devin Sorell and Kathleen Coloney also tossed in 12 points for Clarkson. The Knights forced 29 turnovers by Skidmore and made 16 steals, but committed 22 miscues of their own. Kelly Donnelly had another double-double with 20 points and 14 rebounds and Ari Fustini finished with 10 points for the Thoroughbreds.
