Clarkson Falls to Babson 10-2

Playing its fifth game in the past three days, the Clarkson University Baseball team fell to Babson 10-2 on Monday afternoon in Auburndale, Florida.

Clarkson is now 2-3 on the season. Babson improves to 4-3.

The Beavers jumped out to a three run lead in the top of the second. Two singles got runners on before a Clarkson error allowed Babson to get on the scoreboard. A single up the middle then scored a second run and then finally a third run scored as another Babson runner was caught in a pickle.

The Beavers added two more runs in the fourth on a double and two singles to open the frame. Clarkson answered those two runs with two of its own in the Green and Gold half of the fourth. Chris Miller worked a walk leading off, before freshmen Cam Bando and Joe Frasier both singled to load the bases. Will Coleman stepped up with the bases juiced and hit an infield single that saw Miller score. Ben Knauf followed by grounding into a double play, but Bando did score on the play.

That was all the scoring for the Golden Knights though and the Beavers were able to extend their lead in the sixth with three more runs, before adding another two in the ninth for the final margin of 10-2.

Mike Bubniak made his first start of the year and picked up the loss as he allowed seven earned runs in six innings. Ryan Riley pitched two more scoreless innings in relief of Bubniak
with Riley now having five scoreless innings this season. Vincent Granuzzo allowed two runs as he pitched the ninth inning.

Clarkson's next game will be against the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater at 10:00 am on Tuesday morning.
