#2 Clarkson Brings 14-game Win Streak back to Cheel Arena

ECAC Men's Hockey action returns to Cheel Arena this weekend for the first time since early December when Clarkson University hosts Harvard and Dartmouth in a pair of 7:00 p.m. games to open a four-game home stand.  The Golden Knights, guided by seventh-year head coach Casey Jones and assistants Phil Roy '00 and Josh Hauge are one of the hottest teams in the country and bring a 14-game winning streak back to Potsdam.

Ranked #2 in the national polls, Clarkson stands at a perfect 10-0-0 in ECAC Hockey play and is tied for the most victories in Division I with an 18-3-1 overall record. The Green and Gold are coming off a weekend sweep in NY's Capital District after defeating Union 4-1 and Rensselaer 3-0.

•    The Knights and Harvard will be meeting for the 122nd time in their all-time series. Harvard has won the last two games in the series to take a 56-54-11 lead. The Crimson took both meetings in 2016-17, winning 7-3 in Potsdam and 4-1 in Cambridge, MA. The Knights claimed both games in 2015-16 with a 5-1 victory at Bright Hockey Center and a 2-1 win at Cheel Arena. The Crimson have gone 6-4 over the past 10 meetings. Clarkson is 15-13-2 over Harvard at Cheel. 
•    Clarkson has won three straight against Dartmouth to hold a significant 72-28-7 lead in their series. The Knights swept the Big Green in 2016-17, winning 4-2 in Potsdam and 6-4 in Hanover, NH. Clarkson started the current winning streak with 4-3 victory at Cheel Arena late in the 2015-16 campaign. Dartmouth's last win in the series was a 5-2 victory at Thompson Arena on January 15, 2016. The Big Green last won in Potsdam on February 20, 2015 with a 3-2 overtime triumph. Clarkson is 18-5-3  against Dartmouth at Cheel Arena.
•    Picked to finish fourth in ECAC Hockey this year by the conference coaches, the Knights are off to their best start ever in league play at 10-0-0 and have outscored conference opponents 41-12. 
•    Clarkson, which owns the most productive offense in ECAC Hockey play, averaging 4.10 goals per conference game, has scored at last three goals in each league win this season. 
•    The Knights also hold the stingiest defense in conference play, giving up only 1.20 goals per game. Clarkson has allowed more than two goals in a game just once in ECAC Hockey action, giving up three in the 5-3 win at Brown on November 10.  The Green and Gold have three shutouts in ECAC Hockey play.
•    The Knights are ranked their highest ever in both the USCHO.com and USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine national polls, earning #2 and receiving first-place votes in both. 
•    Clarkson's current 14-game winning streak, which started with the 6-0 win over RPI in early November, is the third-longest winning stretch in the program's 96-year history.  The current Clarkson streak is the second longest in the country, trailing only Notre Dame's 15-game run. The longest winning stretch in the NCAA since 2002-03 is Boston College's 19-game streak.
•    The last time Clarkson lost a game was on October 28, the high temperature in Potsdam topped out at 73 degrees.

• Clarkson has outscored the opponents 74-28 through 22 games, for the the best scoring margin in the NCAA at 2.09. The Knights boast the best defense in the country, allowing only 1.27 goals per game, and hold the 10th-rated offense, scoring 3.36 goals per game. 
• Specialty teams contribution is a big factor in Clarkson's success as the Green and Gold are tops in the country in combined play at 58% (120/207).
• Clarkson boasts the second-best power play in the country, clicking at 27.9% (29-104)and has scored the third most man-advantage goals in the nation, but does not have one player among the top 17 power-play goal-scorers in the country. The Knights have three players – Terrance Amorosa, Josh Dickinson and Sheldon Rempal – tied for 18th with five power-play goals each. Eight Knights have scored at least one goal in Clarkson's highly productive, balanced power-play effort. The Knights have clicked at 32.8% (24-73) during the 14-game win streak, scoring at least one goal on the man-advantage in all but one game since November 3. Clarkson is 16-0-1 when it scores a power-play goal. The Knights went 2-of-15 on the power play over the weekend against Union (0-5) and RPI (2-10).
• Clarkson has been nearly as good shorthanded, shutting down 88.3% (91-103) of the opponents' man-advantage opportunities for the fourth-rated penalty-killing unit in Division 1. The Green and Gold have allowed only six goals by the opponents on the man-advantage during the 14-game winning streak. The Knights were 11-of-12 on the PK against Union (4-5) and RPI (7-7). 
• Backstopping the Knights in goal is sophomore Jake Kielly, who rates as one of the best goaltenders in the country. Kielly, who has started 21 of Clarkson's 22 games, owns the best goals against average (1.33) in the nation, is second in save percentage (.950), second in winning percentage (.833) and leads the country in shutouts (6). He has earned ECAC Hockey Goaltender of the Month honors in each of the three months this season it has been awarded - October, November and December. ECAC Hockey All-Rookie team goaltender last season, Kielly has already surpassed his win total from last year (16) with a 17-3-1 record. The most victories in a season by a Clarkson goaltender in the last 11 years is 22 by David Leggio '08 in 2007-08.
• Freshman Nicholas Latinovich will certainly remember his first career appearance for the Knights as he made 21-saves in a close contest to backstop the Green and Gold to the 3-0 win at RPI.  He is the third Clarkson goaltender and first since Steve Perry '17 (Oct. 6, 2013) to post a whitewash in his first collegiate game.
• Headlining the Knights' prolific offense is one of the top lines in the nation. Clarkson's Sophomore Line, centered by Nico Sturm with left wing Devin Brosseau and right wing Sheldon Rempal, accounts for 35.2% of the team's scoring. Rempal, Brosseau and Sturm rate one, two, and three on the Clarkson scoring charts. 
• The fourth-leading goal scorer in the country, Rempal has tallied 16 goals and 28 points and is tied for second in the nation in game-winning goals with four. Rempal has recorded 15 points (9-6) over the last 11 games. He has already surpassed his rookie goal  (11) and point (23) totals from last season.
• Brosseau has 24 points, including a team-high 19 assists, tied for sixth most in Division 1. He shares the current longest point streak among the Knights with 11 points (2-9) over the last seven games.  Four of his five goals have come on the power play. His only even-strength goal this season came on Friday when scored just 55 seconds after the opening faceoff in the 4-1 win at Union.
• Sturm is third in the country in winning faceoff percentage, 63% (242-142) and leads the Knights' in plus/minus at +18. He is third in scoring with 21 points on nine goals and 12 assists.  Sturm has a seven-game point streak with 11 points (7-4) since November 25. Sturm has scored three times on the power play, netted both of Clarkson's shorthanded goals and has tallied three game-winners.
• Along with its steady play in Clarkson's own end, the Knights' blueline brigade made a big offensive contribution in the weekend sweep down in Albany. Six of the seven Clarkson defensemen who played accounted for three goals and five assists over the two games.  
• A pair of NHL Draft picks, seniors Terrance Amorosa and Kelly Summers provides Clarkson with one of the best defensive pairings in the country. 
• A 2014 Ottawa Senators' draftee, Summers has 18 points  on three goals and 15 assists. He has a seven-game point streak with nine points (1-8) since November 25. Summers tallied the gamewinner on the power play in Saturday's win at RPI. He leads the Knights in blocks shots with 33 and posts a +11 plus/minus.
• A 2013 Philadelphia Flyers' draft choice, Amorosa has surpassed his season-high for points with 17 on five goals and 12 assists, tying for fifth on the Clarkson scoring charts.  He had one assist on the weekend (at RPI).  All five of his goals have come on the power play. He holds a +14 plus/minus rating. 
• Junior Aaron Thow scored his second goal of the year from the blueline in the win at Union, and picked up an assist at RPI. He has five points (2-3) on the season.
• Three of freshman defenseman Jere Astren's four goals have been gamewinners, including the deciding score in th 4-1 victory at Union. He has five points on the season.
• Senior Tyko Karjalainen and sophomore Greg Moro also recorded assists from the blueline over the weekend.
• Linemates Jack Jacome and Josh Dickinson rank two and three among freshman scorers overall in ECAC Hockey, and one and three in league points among rookies. 
• Jacome is tied for fifth on Clarkson in scoring with 17 points, including 14 assists. He was named the Hockey Commissioners' Association National Division 1 Rookie of the Month for November.
• Dickinson is second in the country for goals by a freshman with 10, and also adds six assists for 16 points. He shares the team lead in power-play goals with five. He has recorded three, two-goal outings. Dickinson leads the Knights' forwards in block shots with 29 and is third on the team overall. Dickinson was named ECAC Player of the of the Month for November.
• Clarkson has outscored opponents in every period with the largest margin being in the second period,  26-9.
• Clarkson is 12-0 when leading after the first period and 18-0 when holding the lead through 40 minutes. 
• The Knights are 18-0-1 when scoring more than one goal, and 16-0-1 when connecting for a power-play goal. Clarkson has posted 13 games in which it has scored more than three goals with a season-high 6 in the 6-0 win over RPI (11/3).
• The Knights are 10-0-0 in games decided by three-or-more goals.
• Clarkson has outscored RPI 11-0 in three wins this season (6-0 at home (11/3), 2-0 in Belfast (11/24) and 3-0 in Troy (1/13).
• Captain Nic Pierog is the first Golden Knight to wear the #6 jersey since the late Mike Morrison '89 wore it in his senior campaign of 1988-89.  Pierog has three goals and four assists.
• Senior Brett Gervais serves as an assistant captain along with Devin Brosseau. Gervais has five points on the year with two goals and three assists.
• Twenty-one Knights have recorded at least one point this season and 16 Clarkson players have scored at least one goal.
• The Knights have scored the opening goal in 15 of the 22 games this season and are 14-1 when doing so.
•    Clarkson is tied for first in the nation for most wins away from its home arena with 11 (9 on the road, 2 neutral). The Knights are 11-2-1 away from Cheel Arena with their only two road losses coming on the Olympic-size ice sheet (100' x 200') at Minnesota's 3M Arena at Mariucci on October 27-28.
•    Clarkson has the third-best home winning percentage in Division I at .875 with a 7-1 record at Cheel. The Knights play their next four in Potsdam and eight of the final 12 regular season games. Clarkson boast an all-time home record of 293-145-48 in 27 years at Cheel Arena.
• Clarkson has outshot the opponents in 14 of the 22 games. The Knights have put at least 30 shots on net in 10 games, including a season-high 39 in the 6-0 win over RPI (11/3) at Cheel Arena in the ECAC Hockey opener. 
• After many years of futility Clarkson is on a roll in in-season tournaments having won two consecutive Thanksgiving affairs. The Knights won Notre Dame's Shillelagh Tournament last year, tying Yale 2-2 (advancing in a shootout win) and defeating the Fighting Irish 2-0 to claim its first in-season tournament title since 2006. The Knights followed that with the Friendship Four championship this November with a 2-0 victory over RPI and a 4-2 win over Providence in Belfast.
• Clarkson began its 57th season of ECAC Hockey play this year. The Knights boast a 687-380-94 league record for a .632 winning percentage since the conference was formed in 1961-62.  Clarkson has won 10 regular-season titles, the last coming in 2007-08, and five conference tournament crowns, the last coming in 2007.

Scouting Harvard
Preseason favorite to win the 2017-18 ECAC Hockey regular season, Harvard stumbled a bit to start the year, but appears to be back on track entering the North Country.The Crimson, guided by 14th-year head coach Ted Donato, are unbeaten in their last six games (4-0-2) and 6-1-3 since November 24. Harvard stands at 8-6-3 overall and is tied for third place in the league standings with a 7-3-2 conference mark. Harvard is four points behind Clarkson in the standings, but has played two more league games. The Crimson skated to a 3-1 win over Princeton and tied Quinnipiac 2-2 over the weekend in Cambridge, MA. Harvard is 3-4-2 in road games. 

Scouting Dartmouth:
Dartmouth brings a 6-10-2 overall record and a 4-6-1 ECAC Hockey mark into the North Country, playing at St. Lawrence on Friday before facing Clarkson. Guided by long-time coach Bob Gaudet, now in his 21st season in Hanover, NH, the Big Green have been a tough foe since mid-December, going 4-2-1 in the last seven games. Dartmouth won at Denver 5-4 (12/16), tied Minnesota-Duluth 2-2 (12/30), and defeated Quinnipiac 4-3 this past Friday. Dartmouth lost 6-3 at home to Princeton on Saturday. The Big Green are 1-6-1 in road games.

The Knights claimed both games in 2015-16 with a 5-1 victory at Bright Hockey Center and a 2-1 win at Cheel Arena. The Crimson have gone 6-4 over the past 10 meetings.
