CU Women's Basketball Preview - vs. William Smith/RIT (1/19-20)

Nearly halfway through the conference schedule, the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team will look to get itself back into the thick of the Liberty League playoff race when the Golden Knights host William Smith and RIT this weekend at Alumni Gymnasium.

Live Stats/Live Video

The Series vs. William Smith – Though Clarkson trails in the all-time series against the Herons with just 17 wins in 63 meetings, the Golden Knights have come away with a win in five of the last six contests. Last year the two teams split the season series with each team winning on the other's home floor.

The Series vs. RIT – The Golden Knights have won two-thirds of the games against the Tigers (26-13) and enjoyed a six-game winning streak versus RIT through last January. However, the Tigers got hot down the stretch and won the last two games of 2016-17 against Clarkson by an average of 14.0 points per game, including the Liberty League Championship contest.

Key Stats for Clarkson (7-7, 2-5 Liberty League): Senior guard Devin Sorell has been on a hot streak as of late, winning the Liberty League Performer of the Week on Monday thanks to a pair of 30-point games. Sorell is averaging 20.0 points per game in league contests with 19 3-pointers in the seven conference games. Overall, her 18.0 points per game ranks third in the league and her 33 3-pointers are the most in the conference. She has reached double figures in 12 straight games and 31 of the past 33 contests for Clarkson.

Key Stats for William Smith (8-6, 2-5 Liberty League): Mia Morrison has continued her growth into one of the best players in the Liberty League. The junior forward has improved her field goal percentage to 45.5%, third in the conference, but the most impressive progression in her game is at the free throw line. After shooting just 59.6% from the line in her first two seasons combined, Morrison is now hitting 79.1% of her foul shots. She ranks among the conference leaders in scoring (17.7 ppg), rebounding (8.4 rpg), field goal percentage and free throw percentage.

Key Stats for RIT (11-2, 6-1 Liberty League): Despite suffering a surprising loss at home to Vassar, the Tigers are still by themselves in first place in the conference. The Tigers have made things look easy for the most part, winning by a margin of 18.5 ppg through the first half of the season. RIT leads the league in field goal percentage (43.0%), free throw percentage (75.1%) and has committed the fewest turnovers in the conference by a large margin. Cori Okada leads the conference in assists with 4.2 apg, a little under her league-leading average of 4.6 per game in 2016-17.
