CU Women's Basketball Preview - vs. Bard/Vassar (1/26-27)

At the midway point of the 2017-18 season, the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team has some work to do to maintain its streak of playoff appearances, and the Golden Knights will look to climb back into the playoff picture with games against Bard and Vassar this weekend at Alumni Gymnasium.

The Series vs. Bard: The Golden Knights are 12-1 all-time against the Raptors, including a dominating win in early January (79-41).

The Series vs. Vassar: Clarkson still holds a narrow lead (18-17) in his run against the Brewers, but Vassar inched closer to pulling even in the all-time match up with a 66-51 victory during January's opening weekend.

Key Stats for Clarkson (7-9, 2-7 Liberty League): Senior guard Devin Sorell, the conference's leader in 3-point field goals with 38, has scored in double figures in 14 consecutive games, including all nine conference games. Sorell ranks third in the conference in scoring at 17.9 points per contest. Classmate and fellow guard Madison Shea has posted solid all-around numbers with 11.3 points, 5.8 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 2.1 steals per game. Clarkson leads the conference with 122 3-pointers, a total which ranks 47th (among 435 schools) in Division III.

Key Stats for Bard (0-15, 0-9 Liberty League): The Raptors have struggled on offense this year, ranking 432nd out of 435 schools in scoring (38.3 points per game), 434th in field goal percentage (24.3%) and 422nd in 3-point field goal percentage (19.7%). Although Bard has not had an easy go of putting the ball in the net, the team has done a decent job of limiting its turnovers, cutting one miscue per game compared to last season. Caleigh DeCaprio leads the team in scoring at 8.5 points per contest.

Key Stats for Vassar (11-5, 6-3 Liberty League): The top 3-point shooting team in the Liberty League, Vassar ranks 23rd in the country in 3-point field goal percentage (35.8%) and has been even better in league games (36.9%). The Brewers' 97 3-pointers ranks third in the league overall, with Nicole Teta and Isa Peczuh tying for the team lead with 23 apiece. Sophie Nick ranks in the top 10 in the conference in scoring (13.1 ppg) and rebounding (6.6 rpg). Ariella Rosenthal has also posted solid numbers with 10.4 points and 7.1 rebounds per game.
