Rempal Scores Twice As Knights Take Down Yale 4-1

Sophomore Sheldon Rempal (Calgary, ALB), the leading offensive force in ECAC Hockey, got back in the goal-scoring groove with a pair of tallies to help lift the Clarkson University Hockey team to a 4-1 victory over Yale before 2,873 fans at Cheel Arena on Friday night.

The #2/3-ranked Golden Knights broke out of a two-game winless funk to improve to 19-4-2 overall and remain in first place in the ECAC Hockey standings with an 11-1-1 league mark. Clarkson closes out a four-game home stand on Saturday by hosting Brown in a 7:00 p.m. contest.

Rempal, who was held without a goal for the previous five games, opened and closed the scoring in the win over Yale (9-10-1, 6-8-1).

Clarkson had an excellent opportunity to jump out to lead early with a five-minute power play, starting just two minutes into the game, but could not capitalize on the extended man-advantage. The Knights finally broke through at 1:05 of the first when Rempal took a pass from behind the net by junior defenseman Aaron Thow (Toronto, ONT) and fired in a shot from the bottom of the right circle. Thow extended his point streak to five games with the assist.

The Bulldogs, who lead the country in shorthanded goals, struck for another man-down goal, their sixth of the season, when Robbie DeMontis knocked in a rebound at 11:19 of the middle frame, tying the score.

That would be it, however, for the visitors as the Knights' defense and sophomore goaltender Jake Kielly (Eden Prairie, MN) shut down Yale the rest of the way.

Clarkson's power play, which has struggled recently, came through with a key goal as senior defenseman Terrance Amorosa (Kirkland, QUE) connected on a blast from the point at 16:15 of the second period for the game-winner. All six of Amorosa's goals have come on the man-advantage this season. Sophomore Nico Sturm (Augsburg, Germany) and senior Kelly Summers (Golden Lake, ONT) assisted.

Assistant captain, sophomore Devin Brosseau (St. Lambert, QUE) tallied off a cross-ice pass from Strum at 4:22 of the third to give the Green and Gold some breathing room at 3-1. Senior defenseman Tyko Karjalainen (Helsinki, Finland) started the rush to earn the second assist.

Rempal finished things off with an empty-net goal with 1:53 remaining. Sturm recorded his third assist of the night.

Yale outshot Clarkson 28-25. The Knights were 1-of-3 on the power play and killed off all three of the Bulldogs' man-advantage chances.

Kielly finished with 27 saves.
