Clarkson Cruises to Second Straight Lopsided Win in Florida

Englewood, FL – For the second time in three days, the Clarkson University Women's Lacrosse team dominated time of possession and the results on the scoreboard matched as the Golden Knights cruised to a 19-4 victory over Benedictine (IL) in the second game of the team's Florida trip.

The Knights improved to 5-2 overall and will return to Potsdam later this week to take on conference foe Bard College on Saturday afternoon. Benedictine fell to 2-3 on the season.

Clarkson won 19 of the 24 draw controls and held a 16-6 edge in groundballs, allowing the Knights to dictate the pace of play throughout the contest. In the first half, the Knights took 22 shots and allowed just three, leading to a 15-2 advantage at the half. In the final 30 minutes, Clarkson clearly slowed down its offense, taking only seven shots.

Sophomore Emma Andrews scored four times in the first 11 minutes of the game as Clarkson jumped out to a 7-0 lead through 13 minutes. The Eagles ended their scoreless streak with a goal at 16:10, but the Knights ended the half with eight more goals as Celia Fitzgerald matched Andrews' output with four scores in the last 16 minutes of the first period.

Clarkson scored a little over four minutes into the second half, but after that goal slowed things up, tallying just three times in the final 12 minutes.

Andrews scored five points on four goals and an assist, producing a goal on each of her four shots in the game. Fitzgerald added four points and Katie Sergeant contributed four points with three goals and an assist. Lexi Smith assisted on three first-half goals. Jaid Baytos, Aubrey Borgesi and Julia Nicotra each scored two goals. Baytos won six draw controls and Natalie Farnett gained four draws. Samantha Gladd earned the win in the crease for the Knights, making one save in the first half before being relieved by Carolynn Pechmann and Emily Fischer, who split time in the second half.
