CU Men's Lacrosse Preview - vs. Union College (3/31)

Two league games are already in the books, but the Clarkson University Men's Lacrosse team is about to embark upon a key stretch in which it faces six Liberty League foes in the final seven games of the season, beginning with a home game against conference rival Union College on Saturday afternoon.

Live Stats/Live Video

The Series: The Golden Knights lost last year's meeting 12-5 thanks to a standout performance from Union's goalkeeper Sam Bebout, who made 21 saves on 26 shots in 56 minutes. It was the fourth straight loss by Clarkson and the eighth in the past nine meetings against the Dutchmen. That stretch of success by Union has changed what was a very even series into a 24-15 advantage for the Dutchmen.

Key Stats for Clarkson (4-3, 1-1 Liberty League): Senior Mathew Milne has suddenly become the Golden Knights' top man on groundballs, scooping up 15 in the last two games overall with seven against SUNY Geneseo last Saturday and eight versus SUNY Potsdam on Tuesday evening. Milne still ranks third on the team behind faceoff specialist Ryan Gabriel (30) and defensive all-star Liam St. Croix (18), but similar games will quickly see him ascend to the top. Conor Bartlett posted a career-high four goals against Potsdam and now is tied for the team lead with 13 to go along with team-bests in assists (8) and points (21).

Key Stats for Union (5-1, 0-0 Liberty League): Though the Dutchmen have yet to face a league opponent, they have certainly racked up an impressive number of goals in six games. Even with a less than stellar two against Springfield College, Union is averaging 13 goals per contest. Most of that offense is coming from three players, led by Kerry Lyne. The sophomore attackman leads the team with 20 goals and senior Jordan Cooper has been the key facilitator, distributing 20 assists for a team-high 23 points. John Edmonds has also chipped in 17 points on 11 goals and six assists. Senior goalkeeper Sam Bebout enjoyed a standout game against Clarkson last year and is posting quality numbers again this year with a 5.49 goals against average and .649 save percentage.
