CU Men's Soccer Preview - at Ithaca College (9/22)

Non-league games can sometimes mean nothing and other times mean everything, but one thing is undisputed right now: the Clarkson University Men's Soccer team and Ithaca College currently have the two best winning percentages in the Liberty League and those two squads will meet up to see who is better on Saturday afternoon in Ithaca.

Live Stats/Live Video

The Series: The two teams met up 44 times from 1958 to 2001 with Ithaca going 29-14-1 in those outings, but since the match up was renewed in 2016, the Golden Knights have come away with wins in each game, beating the Bombers 2-0 in 2016 and 2-1 in 2017.

Key Stats for Clarkson (6-1-0): Though Clarkson is outscoring opponents 16-3 this year, it is the defense that is showing up each day for the Knights. Clarkson is first in the Liberty League in goals allowed (0.43 gpg), scoring margin (+1.86 gpg), and save percentage (.906) while also receiving a league-best 54 corner kick chances. Ian Roeloffs and Riley McDonald have combined for five shutouts, splitting time in the Clarkson goal. Drew Lewis and Henry Gomez have each been held scoreless for two straight games, but they still are tied for the team lead in scoring with nine points each.

Key Stats for Ithaca (6-0-1): The Bombers edged into the top 25 poll on d3soccer.com this week, moving up to 23rd thanks to an unbeaten stretch of seven games. Ithaca has required overtime on three occasions but came away with a win twice and tied 17th-ranked Cortland State. Ithaca ranks second in the conference in goals allowed per game (0.57 gpg), scoring margin (+1.29 gpg) and corner kicks (51), each time just behind the Golden Knights. Nate Mansfield leads the team with seven points, scoring three times, all game-winning goals. Max Lichtenstein owns a 0.55 goals against average, an .818 save percentage and four shutouts this year. Ithaca is also outshooting opponents 103-51.
