Clarkson and Ithaca Battle to Scoreless Tie

Ithaca, NY – With only loss between the two teams entering Saturday's tilt, it was clear that the game between the Clarkson University Men's Soccer team and Ithaca College would be tightly contested. The teams didn't disappoint except for on the scoreboard, as the Liberty League opener for both ended in a scoreless 0-0 tie.

The Golden Knights moved to 6-1-1 on the season while Ithaca remained unbeaten at 6-0-2. Clarkson faces St. Lawrence University on Wednesday afternoon.

In the first five minutes, Ithaca enjoyed three corner kick opportunities, but nothing came of those chances as the team couldn't get a shot off at all. The final three minutes of the first half were in the favor of the Golden Knights as Clarkson recorded three shots, with John Furcick's attempt getting saved, Matt Adamou's shot getting blocked, and Erick Naula's attempt clearing the crossbar.

The defenses didn't let up in the second half as scoring chances were few and far between. Ithaca didn't have a shot on goal for the final 32 minutes of the second half, and the Golden Knights didn't get a shot on goal for the final 36 minutes. The first overtime saw Matt Adamou and Stephen Klimek tee off in the final two minutes, but both shots went wide, and the second overtime was even more silent with no shots on goal whatsoever for either team.

Ian Roeloffs finished with four saves to record his third shutout of 2018 for the Golden Knights, while Max Lichtenstein made three stops in Ithaca's shutout. Clarkson owned a 13-7 lead in shots, though just three of those attempts were on the frame. Ithaca managed a modest 8-7 lead in corner kicks.
