Green Makes Collegiate-High 12 Saves In 1-0 Loss at Skidmore

Saratoga Springs, NY – Junior Elyse Green matched her season-high for saves in the first half and then surpassed her career-high by the end of the game, but the Clarkson University Women's Soccer team came up short in a 1-0 decision against Skidmore in Liberty League action Tuesday afternoon.

The Golden Knights saw their record fall to 4-4-1 overall and 0-2-0 in conference games, while Skidmore edged back over .500 at 4-3-0 and 1-1-0. Clarkson will look to get back on the winning side on Saturday when it faces league foe RIT.

Skidmore controlled play from the outset and limited the Golden Knights to just two shots in the first half, including on that came in the final seconds. However, the Thoroughbreds could only crack the Clarkson defense on one occasion. Yasmine Boukari took an attempt from about 30 yards out and curled her shot around the outstretched frame of Elyse Green at the 11:18 mark, picking up her fifth goal of the season.

After the opening goal, the Thoroughbreds would take 11 more shots before the end of the half came and when the two teams returned to action it appeared as if the Golden Knights would even things up. In a 62-second stretch, the Green and Gold received three corner kick opportunities and then Kendall Cathcart got a shot on the Skidmore net, but all of the attempts were stopped or cleared.

For the remainder of the contest, Green kept the Knights within striking distance, making four more stops and holding off several other runs and scoring opportunities by Skidmore. However, Clarkson could not come up with an equalizer and was held without a shot for the final 29 minutes as Skidmore, too, would not budge on defense.

Skidmore finished with a 23-4 edge in shots including a 13-3 lead in shots on goal. Clarkson and Skidmore were tied in corner kick chances at five apiece. Green surpassed her career-high in saves from last year with 12, topping her previous best by one. Ava Keller made three stops in the Skidmore frame to record the shutout.
