A day after a doubleheader split in league games against Bard College, the Clarkson University Baseball team hits the road for a single nine-inning game at Plattsburgh State.

Live Stats

The Series: Poet Robert Burns would have used his line regarding the best laid plans in discussing the matchup between the Golden Knights and Cardinals. Despite regularly scheduling games, as the two schools are separated by fewer than 100 miles, these contests seem to go awry due to weather or conference schedule make ups. Clarkson beat Plattsburgh in 10 innings last year, 3-2, but it was the first game between the two teams since 2013.

Key Stats for Clarkson (15-12): Freshman Mike Nee has come along quickly at the dish, hitting .356/.475/.378 in 16 games, averaging close to one run batted in per game (14 RBI in 16 games). In his last six contests, Nee is hitting .474 (9-for-19) with eight runs scored and seven runs batted in. Senior Brad Pearson continues to rake, hitting .404/.467/.691 while leading the league in runs scored (31), ranking second in extra base hits (20), and third in runs batted in (26). Vincent Granuzzo ranks among the league leaders in on-base percentage (.476) while Michael Tito is batting .330/.426/.392 with 19 runs scored.

Key Stats for Plattsburgh State (11-17): The Cardinals have to feel like a professional team right now, having played a doubleheader on Sunday, a single nine on Monday, and another single nine on Tuesday prior to Wednesday's single nine-inning affair against Clarkson. Plattsburgh used eight pitchers in its win against Union on Tuesday and might be able to roll over a starter or two from Sunday's doubleheader for a few frames. The Cardinals need all the pitching they can get, as the offense has been a little light for Plattsburgh in 2019. The team is hitting a collective .236/.328/.301 with only 40 extra base hits in 28 games, just twice the total that Clarkson's Brad Pearson has in 27 contests. Rocco Cipriano leads the team on offense with a .306/.450/.468 batting line, while Stephen Bryant is hitting .316/.431/.400 with 18 steals in 20 tries.
