Knights Stage Huge Rally to Win at Arcadia

Glenside, PA – After dropping the opening two sets, the Clarkson University Volleyball team found its offensive rhythm and roared back to claim a 3-2 win over Arcadia University, 20-25, 16-25, 25-15, 25-15, 15-9 on Friday evening.

The Golden Knights improved to 13-7 overall, and the team will play top-ranked Johns Hopkins as well as Muhlenberg on Saturday afternoon.

Clarkson struggled on its side of the net to start, netting just two positive kills compared to errors (17-15) in the first two sets as the Knights found themselves playing from behind at the start. Uncharacteristically, the Green and Gold also struggled on serve receive, getting aced nine times in the first two games of the match.

Everything turned around in the third set, though it was slow going compared to the latter two games. The Knights were aced just two times in the final three games and also found a spark on offense, hitting .277 over the last two games, including the sprint to 15 in game five.

Gillian Kurtic was a key part of the Clarkson turnaround, delivering a .317 hitting percentage thanks to 19 kills while also adding five total blocks. Kristin Werdine also tossed in 13 kills and Allyson Treichel added nine kills. Isabelle Crow ran the offense to the tune of 45 assists while also contributing two blocks. Emma Baxter had a career-best 40 digs and Abigail Spector contributed 16 digs as well as three aces, including one to clinch the match.

Arcadia was led by Michelle Frank, who had 17 kills and was the only player for the Knights to reach double figures in that category. Estefania Martinez-Sola tossed in 36 assists and also had three service aces and 11 digs. Five players finished in double figures for digs, led by 22 from Grace Kraft.
