Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Knights Fall to Saints, 3-0

Potsdam, NY – Although the Clarkson University Men's Soccer team nearly doubled up St. Lawrence in shots on Wednesday evening, it was the Saints that came away with the win, defeating the Golden Knights 3-0 in Liberty League action at Hantz Field.

The Golden Knights fell to 2-6-2 on the season and are now 0-3-0 in conference games, while St. Lawrence edged back over .500 at 6-5-0 and 2-2-0 in league contests. Clarkson is back at home on Saturday, when the team hosts Hobart College.

Most of the Golden Knights shots best chances were wide of the frame, as were the attempts by St. Lawrence in the early going, but the Saints were able to break through close to the midway point of the first half. Raphael Zoccolaro possessed the ball just a few strides over midfield and sent a long pass to Michael McDougald on the right side. McDougald took a couple of steps and sent a hard strike on the ground to the opposite post, bouncing it just inside of the far pole and in at 22:23.

The Saints would pick up two insurance goals in the second half, one in the first few moments and another close to the halfway point of the period. Off an attempted clear, Marvin Sibanda was able to take advantage when a misplaced header found his foot, as he scored at 48:28. Sibanda then assisted on the third score for the Saints, heading a ball forward to McDougald, who again hit a low, hard liner into the net at 66:14.

Clarkson finished with a 14-8 edge in shots overall, but the two teams were even in shots on goal at five apiece. Clarkson also held the advantage in corner kick chances, 3-1. Ian Donahue made two saves for the Knights, while Ben Woelfinger denied five shots for the shutout for St. Lawrence.
