Clarkson topples Wisconsin to stay unbeaten in last six

Clarkson ran their unbeaten streak to 6 games with a 3-0 win over the Wisconsin Badgers in Madison tonight.

Goals from Ayrton Martino, Anthony Romano, and Mathieu Gosselin gave the Knights the win.  Ethan Haider was strong in net, making 31 saves to get his second shutout in his last 5 starts.

Like last night the first period went scoreless, but Martino was able to score his second on the season just 2:10 into the second period.  Ryan Richardson got the assist on the goal, his first of two helpers on the night.

The Knights carried the lead into the third and were able to extend the lead, when Zach Tsekos made a great hit along the boards just inside the Badger blueline.  Martino was able to pick up the puck from the fray and feed Romano who put it home at 11:10 of the third.  Clarkson killed off two late Wisconsin power plays, the last with the extra attacker, and at 19:23 Gosselin was able to fend off a defender and slide a shot into the empty net to put the game out of reach.

Tempers flared near the end of the second period when a scrap in the corner led to 9 roughing calls and 4 misconducts handed out. Clarkson was 0 for 2 on their two chances and held Wisconsin 0 for 3 on the kill.

The Knights will be back to ECAC play this weekend as they host Colgate on Friday and Cornell on Saturday.
