Clarkson dug themselves a hole in the first period at Union when they gave up 2 power play goals which lead to a 3 goal deficit. At 2-0 the Knights appeared to have scored, but the goal was called off and
Luke Mobley was instead assessed a 5 min major for contact to the head cross checking. So instead of down 2-1 the Knights went on a 5 minute kill in which they added their 3rd goal of the period. Clarkson was able to gain some momentum going into the intermission when
Jack Jacome scored at 19:31 on the power play to make it 3-1.
The 2nd period saw the Knights take over much of the play out shooting Union 11-5 and a goal from
Mathieu Gosselin pulled the Knights to within 1.
In the 3rd period Clarkson again owned the shot advantage and was able to tie the game when
Jordan Power scored early in the frame to help push the momentum. Clarkson had great chances late into the 3rd as the game was tied.
In the extra session of 3 v 3 the Knights had several great chances and was even awarded a penalty shot, when Martino was dragged down on a breakaway. They couldn't convert and Union was able to get the OT win when they converted on a partial breakaway at 3:00 into OT.
Clarkson will get the 1 point for forcing OT. Union will get the extra point for the OT win.
Clarkson was 1 for 3 on the power play but gave up 2 of 3 chances to Union.
Ethan Haider made 24 saves, while the Knights directed 33 shots on net.
