Box Score
Schenectady, NY – Junior Elaina Porter scored a team-high 13 points for the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team, but a big fourth quarter by Union College sent the Golden Knights to a defeat by a score of 70-48 on Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Knights fell to 0-6 overall and 0-2 in Liberty League contests, while Union picked up its first win of the season, moving to 1-3 and 1-1. Clarkson will next face St. Lawrence University in a rare Wednesday league contest.

Although the Knights fell behind in the early going, Clarkson was able to stick in the game thanks to 3-pointers from Likhita Chanda at the 5:54 mark and Ruthie Nolan at 4:17, staying within five six minutes into the game. Union scored 10 points over the final four minutes of the quarter and built a 12-point lead at the first break. In the second, Clarkson fell behind by 19, but Mariah Benavides hit a 3-pointer at the 2:24 mark to spark a 7-0 run over the last few moments to climb back within 12 at intermission.

At the start of the third, Clarkson fell back to a 15-point deficit, but the Knights recovered quickly and pulled to within seven on four different occasions midway through the quarter, and that remained the margin through three periods as Ruthie Nolan hit a 3-pointer with 1:05 left, putting the score at 47-40.

The seven-point margin would be as close as Clarkson would get to the Dutchwomen, as Union opened the fourth quarter with a 9-2 run in the first three minutes of the period. Although some free throws briefly stopped the streak by Union, Clarkson was unable to cut the difference any lower.

Porter finished with 13 points on 6-for-13 shooting and ended up just a rebound short of a double-double thanks to nine rebounds. Mariah Benavides added 11 points, most coming from the free throw line, and Cassidy Dumont contributed eight rebounds.

For Union, Megan Lee scored 21 points, going 9-for-10 from the floor. Darby Leid added 14 points and Amber Raisner also reached double figures with 11 points.
