Wilson Homers Again, But Knights Fall to St. John Fisher

Auburn, NY – Caleb Doyle and Evan Lira each recorded three hits and Kent Wilson homered again, but the Clarkson University Baseball team was outdone on offense by St. John Fisher as the Golden Knights dropped a 19-6 decision on Friday afternoon at Falcon Park.

The Golden Knights fell to 0-3 on the season while St. John Fisher moved to 3-0. Clarkson will be off for the next 12 days but returns to action against Cortland State on March 24th.

St. John Fisher got on the scoreboard first, as Justin Graham hit a two-run homer to right-center in the bottom of the opening frame. In the second, the Cardinals pushed across four runs, as a pair of players drew two-out walks and one came home on Brian Norsen's ground-rule double to make it 3-0, and then everyone scored on a Noah Campanelli three-run shot to left field. Softer batted balls did the damage in the bottom of the third as one run came in on a single by Joe Ruggiero and another finished the circuit on a ground-out by Graham.

Clarkson got one back in the top of the fourth as Joe Pagano opened the inning with a walk. He advanced to second two batters later when Michael Mieczkowski was hit by a pitch, and Kent Wilson drove in Pagano with a double to left-center. Joe Stockman was then hit by a pitch to load the bases with one out, but a strikeout and pop up ended the threat for the Cardinals.

The Knights picked up another run in the top of the fifth as Evan Lira led off with a double and advanced to third on a single by Caleb Doyle. Lira later came around on a ground-out by Mike Nee. Unfortunately for the Knights, Fisher was far from done, having responded to Clarkson's run in the fourth with three of its own, and then adding another five in the bottom half of the fifth.

Clarkson struck back with three in the top of the sixth inning as Kent Wilson led off the frame with a homer to right-center. The Knights then received a little two-out magic as Evan Lira doubled home Joe Stockman and then came around on a hit to right by Caleb Doyle. The Knights would add another run in the top of the ninth on a double from Mieczkowski which plated Doyle.

Doyle was 3-for-5 with a run scored and two more driven in and Wilson drove in two with his home run, one of two hits on the day for the sophomore. Lira went 3-for-4 at the plate and Mieczkowski had a multi-hit game, going 2-for-4.

For Fisher, Adam Zebrowski drove in four runs. Brian Norsen was 3-for-5 with a pair of run scored and Noah Campanelli went 2-for-5 with a home run.
