Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | March 19, 2020

Knights on Short End of Fourth Quarter Run Against Saints

Canton, NY – Going 15-for-16 from the free throw line in the game proved to be the difference for the home team as the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team dropped a 59-50 decision at St. Lawrence on Friday afternoon at Burkman Gymnasium.

The Golden Knights closed out their season at 6-5 but won the season series against St. Lawrence with four victories in seven contests. The Saints improved to 3-4 and are looking to pick up a few games next week before calling it a season in 2021.

St. Lawrence missed just one free throw in the contest, while Clarkson struggled in that regard, going just 6-for-16 from the line, the same differential in points in the final tally.

Clarkson trailed by three after the first quarter, but outscored St. Lawrence in the second period 19-6 to take a 10-point advantage into the locker room. The Saints were up by three (14-11) but Clarkson ended the half with a 17-4 advantage, including a pair of 3-pointers from Hannah Earl in the final 75 seconds.

In the third quarter, it was St. Lawrence that found its offensive stride, shooting 7-for-14 from the field with three 3-pointers and a 6-for-6 effort from the free throw line to cut the margin down to one. The Saints continued their steady climb in the fourth, making a pair of timely 3-pointers and making six more free throws in as many attempts. The Knights on the other hand struggled, shooting just 3-for-19 in the quarter, though many of those attempts were late 3-pointers in trying to trim St. Lawrence's advantage to a more manageable margin.

Senior Hannah Earl scored 19 points, shooting 7-for-15 from the floor, while junior Maddie Pratt tossed in nine points in just 10 minutes, going 4-for-7 from the field. Senior Rachel Marion also put up solid numbers across the board with 8 points, 7 rebounds, 6 steals, and 3 assists.

For St. Lawrence, Shannon Rhone enjoyed her best day as a collegian with 18 points, making four of five from behind the 3-point arc. Cam Roberts also added 12 points and eight rebounds.
