Dodging the inhospitable weather of the North Country this weekend, the Clarkson University Baseball team will head down state to take on Bard College in its first doubleheader against the Raptors since the Monday after Easter in 2019.

The Series: Bard and Clarkson split the doubleheader in 2019, with the Raptors winning the opener 4-3 before Clarkson thumped Bard in the second game, 15-2. That 4-3 victory for the Raptors stands as the lone win Bard has against Clarkson since the two teams began meeting back in 2014. Clarkson has gone 13-1 overall, though six of those games have been decided by one run.

Key Stats for Clarkson (3-5): Small sample sizes tend to fluctuate averages in the early games of any season, but sophomore infielder Kent Wilson has been steady since the start of the campaign is hitting .400/.484/.760 with a pair of home runs and eight runs batted in, gaining a hit in five of his six starts. Classmate Jonathan Irons started the season 2-for-9, but has picked up six hits in his last 11 at bats, scoring at least one run in each of the last three games. Likewise, junior Mike Nee was hitless in his first nine at bats of 2021 but has six hits in his last 11 turns at bat, driving in four runs in those three games.

Key Stats for Bard (1-1): Getting a good reason on the Raptors is a difficult task since the team has played just two games so far this year and only played four contests in the spring of 2020. The Raptors did appear to be on the rise in the 2019 season with 13 victories, but the team's top two pitchers graduated that year, and accounted for nearly a third of the team's innings. The team does return Spencer Checkoway, who hit .345/.426/.431 in 28 games in 2019, while Jordan Myers stole 11 bases in as many attempts with a .299 average back in the 2019 season.
