RIT Ends Game on 13-2 Run to Down Knights

Rochester, NY – In one of the lowest scoring games of the year, the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team could not keep pace with RIT in the fourth quarter, as the Golden Knights dropped a 49-36 decision to the Tigers on Wednesday evening.

The Golden Knights saw their mark fall to 5-14 overall and 4-9 in the Liberty League while RIT edged up to 10-8 and 7-6. Clarkson will play three more road games in the next six days, including games at Ithaca College and Rensselaer this weekend.

Mariah Benavides hit a 3-pointer in the first minute of the second quarter to give the nights a five-point lead, but RIT gained the lead thanks to seven straight points from Kaleesha Joseph, with two layups and three free throws. RIT would not trail for the rest of the half, though a Mariah Benavides 3-pointer with 43 seconds to go reduced the margin to just one at the break, 25-24.

However, it was the fourth quarter that saw the Tigers extend their advantage. Porter opened the period with a jumper, but RIT went on a 13-2 run over the last nine minutes of the contest. The big basket came with three minutes to go when Alyssa Juergens hit a 3-pointer to put RIT up by double figures, only the second 3-pointer of the game for the Tigers.
