First-Half Score Sends Knights to First Loss in 2022, 1-0 to Skidmore

Potsdam, NY – Kamal Ibrahim scored in the 21st minute for the visitors as the 19th-ranked Clarkson University Men's Soccer team fell for the first time in 2022, dropping a 1-0 decision to Skidmore College in Liberty League action Wednesday evening at Hantz Field.

The Golden Knights fell to 6-1-1 on the season and Skidmore edged forward to 4-1-3. Clarkson will host RIT on Saturday afternoon.

Neither team had much in the way of chances in the early going, as most passes or runs were denied before anything could develop. That changed near the midway point of the half as Skidmore was able to end Clarkson's shutout streak with some pressure in the Knights' defensive end. Clarkson controlled the ball deep in its own defensive zone, but a two-on-one ended the Knights' possession. Hyungbin Kim had the ball on the far left at about 25 yards out and sent a pass square to Kamal Ibrahim, and Ibrahim quickly gathered himself and took a hard shot with his right foot before the Clarkson defense could regain its positioning, skipping the ball past Clarkson goalkeeper Josh Morelli just inside the near post at 20:35.

Clarkson had a chance with a little under 10 minutes remaining with a free kick just outside the penalty area. Nolan Grady tapped a pass back to Christian Silvano, but the freshman's shot sailed high and ended the scoring opportunity.

The second half didn't see many shots on goal, but a handful of attempts went just over the bar or wide. Clarkson carried the play for the final 10 minutes as the team sought out the equalizer and a handful of chances did threaten the Thoroughbreds defense, but goalkeeper Bobby Stratts was able to deny the attempts.

Skidmore finished with a 7-6 edge in shots overall, but Clarkson had a 4-2 lead in shots on goal. The Thoroughbreds also had a 3-1 lead in corner kick opportunities. Josh Morelli made one save for the Knights, while Stratts stopped four shots for Skidmore.
