Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

11th-Ranked William Smith Downs Golden Knights, 3-0

Potsdam, NY - In a virtual repeat of last year's contest, the Clarkson University Women's Soccer team and William Smith battled to an evenly played scoreless tie in the first half, only to see the Herons score early in the second half on their way to a 3-0 victory over the Golden Knights in Liberty League action on Saturday afternoon at Hantz Field.

The Golden Knights dropped to 3-5-2 overall and 0-2-1 in the Liberty League, while the Herons moved to 6-3-2 and 2-1-1. Clarkson is off until next Saturday when the team hosts Ithaca College.

Not much occurred in the way of chances in the first 45 minutes as the two teams combined for five shots and just one on the frame. The best shot for William Smith came in the early going as a header off a cross went just over top the woodwork. Clarkson's chance was equally dangerous when Kirsten Nelson was unable to secure the ball near the top of the box. From there, Brooke Butler took a shot on what was mostly an empty net, but a William Smith defender was able to clear the shot away before it could get into the back of the net.

The Herons came out and scored a pair of goals in the first three minutes of the second half. Just 27 seconds into the start of the period, Lindsay Ringbloom was able to head in a cross from Ruth Hotaling in close. Two minutes later, it was that same combination, as Hotaling sent a cross from the left side, nearly the same spot as before, again to Ringbloom. This time, however, Ringbloom settled the ball with her right foot at around the six, took a quick turn and shot the ball with her right again to make it 2-0.

William Smith all but put the game away at the 55:00 mark. Marissa Mastracco gathered possession off a pass near the left side and centered the ball to Ireland Krawczyk. From there, Krawczyk passed it to Ringbloom near the top of the box, and she quickly volleyed it forward to Mastracco who had filled in the space after her passes. She was then able to hit a slow roller that just trickled inside the post to make it 3-0.

William Smith finished with a modest 9-6 lead in shots and a 5-2 edge in shots on goal. Both teams also finished with one corner kick chance. DiCaprio finished with two saves and Nelson also closed out the game with two saves.
