Slow Start Stalls Knights Versus RIT

Rochester, NY - Some mistakes at the start put the Clarkson University Women's Lacrosse team in an early hole against RIT, and the Golden Knights could not make a complete comeback down the stretch, falling 11-8 to the Tigers in Liberty League action Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Knights dropped to 8-4 overall and 3-3 in the Liberty League while RIT evened its mark at 6-6 and improved to 2-5 in conference games.

The Tigers started off strong in the first quarter, taking advantage of Clarkson defensive issues. The Knights allowed four free-position goals in the first quarter and also a player-up goal in the opening 15 minutes as the Tigers scored on six of their seven shots early, with the lone miss hitting a post. The second quarter saw the Knights improve slightly, but the team's cards allowed RIT to score two more goals while up a player, and a free-position goal in the waning seconds had the Tigers up 9-3 at the break.

Hailey Millington had a significant impact in the third quarter for the Golden Knights as the Green and Gold rallied. The senior scored three times in the period to pull the Knights back within four. However, the fourth quarter belonged to RIT's defense as the Tigers allowed Clarkson just two shots in the final 15 minutes (both of which did result in goals for the Knights).

Millington finished with four goals while Julia Lavarnway and Madelynn Barnum each had two points, including Barnum's 200th career point. Maeve Bartell, Gabby Cranfield, and Makenna Cassin also scored goals for the Knights. Bartell also produced five groundballs and caused two turnovers.

For RIT, Serafina Kiselgof scored five goals and Lily DePalma added four goals. Carissa Hlywa had three assists and Adele Jones added a goal and two assists. Katherine Killian also recorded six groundballs, three draws, and caused two turnovers.
